Large-scale miniature city environment created for film production, combining practical effects, scale-model construction, creature integration, and cinematic visual storytelling.
Overview
The miniature set was developed to replicate the complexity of a real cityscape, featuring elevated highways, architectural structures, vegetation, vehicles, and large-scale destruction elements. Every component was designed to function convincingly under cinematic lighting and close-up photography, allowing filmmakers to capture dynamic scenes with authentic depth, texture, and scale. By relying on practical miniature effects rather than fully digital environments, the production gained greater visual realism and direct interaction between physical elements and camera movement.

Multiple construction techniques were used to create the environment, including custom-built structures, sculpted terrain, hand-finished textures, and detailed surface treatments designed to replicate concrete, asphalt, vegetation, and weathered urban materials. Road systems and elevated highway sections were engineered as modular components, allowing the production team to stage destruction sequences and adapt layouts to different camera angles.
Working closely with the production team, we provided on-set support to ensure the model performed reliably throughout filming. The physical nature of the environment allowed for real-world lighting, shadows, atmospheric effects, and camera movement that are often difficult to replicate digitally. Destruction elements, collapsed infrastructure, and creature integration were designed to function as part of a cohesive practical effects system, giving directors and cinematographers complete creative control during shooting. The finished miniature delivered a highly detailed and believable environment that supported both visual spectacle and narrative requirements, demonstrating the continued value of practical miniature effects within contemporary film production.
