"HotSpot"

Advanced trauma prosthetics, body appliances, and blood effects created for intense close-up scenes and practical horror-style performance.

Overview

For HotSpot, we developed a set of extreme trauma effects and prosthetic appliances designed to transform the actor’s body through realistic wounds, skin damage, and blood work.

For HotSpot, we developed a set of extreme trauma effects and prosthetic appliances designed to transform the actor’s body through realistic wounds, skin damage, and blood work.

The project required a strong balance between visual intensity and technical control. Each effect was created to feel raw, physical, and disturbing on camera, while still supporting the actor’s movement and the needs of the scene. The work included facial trauma, body prosthetics, scar appliances, painted anatomical markings, and layered blood effects built for high-impact practical storytelling.

Our Approach

Our Approach

We focused on creating depth and variation across the body, avoiding flat or decorative gore. Skin texture, exposed wounds, bruising, swelling, and blood placement were carefully designed to react convincingly under lighting and camera proximity. The prosthetic pieces had to integrate with the performer’s body while maintaining comfort, durability, and continuity across multiple takes.

This included application, touch-ups, blood refreshes, and adjustments between takes. Because the effect relied heavily on texture, shine, and fluid placement, close on-set supervision was essential to keep the makeup visually consistent and emotionally believable in front of the camera.
